Retta is going into business with NBCUniveral thanks to a new deal.
The actress-comedienne and NBCUniversal have entered into a deal in which Retta “will collaborate exclusively with NBCU Television and Streaming Entertainment as well as Universal Television (a division of Universal Studio Group) to find projects where she can star on the companyâs entertainment platforms âNBC, Bravo, E!, Oxygen, SYFY, Universal Kids, USA Network and Peacock.”
Retta, who has starred on NBC’s “Parks and Recreation” and “Good Girls” as well as Bravo’s Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce said in a statement how she is excited to work closer with NBCUniversal.
âIâve spent most of my career working with NBCUniversal and I was lucky to have my first series regular role on Parks, which continues to be beloved by a dedicated fan base,â she said. âIt was a love for Donna Meagle that motivated Marti Noxonâs preteen daughter to encourage her mom to put me on Girlfriendsâ Guide to Divorce. Girlfriends allowed me to do drama, which in turn allowed Jenna Bans to see me as Ruby Hill, giving me one of my favorite roles yet. Plus, I have a forever love for (casting EVP) Grace Wu, who gave me my first industry meeting after seeing me do stand-up at the Hollywood Improv all those years ago. Itâs a cozy and familiar place for me.â
Grace Wu, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming’s executive vice president of casting, entertainment and content, and Beth Klein, Universal Television’s executive vice president of talent and casting, also gave statements on Retta joining the NBCUniversal family.
âHaving met Retta over 20 years ago, itâs been a joy to watch her evolve from hilarious stand-up, to an accomplished and compelling actor in both comedy and drama,â Wu said. âI donât think thereâs anything she canât do, and we are thrilled to find her next amazing role in the NBCU universe.â
âRetta is such a dynamic performer and one of our all-time favorites at Universal Television,â said Klein. âThe possibilities with her are truly endless and weâre looking forward to collaborating with her on this next chapter.â
