Attorney and legal analyst Eboni K. Williams has made history as the first Black cast member of The Real Housewives of New York. Williams is already proving to be a fan favorite. As explained in her bio, Williams is Black and proud and makes no excuses for it. As Bravo TV puts it, she’s “positioned for disruption, she enters these opportunities representing Black excellence intent on demonstrating and inspiring what is possible for Black people in America.”
As seen on the Season 13 debut, Williams is true to her word. She wasted no time in giving her co-stars a Black history lesson about New York’s Sag Harbor. During one scene, Ramona Singer surprises the OG’s by inviting Williams to her Hamptons home for a vacation. Luann de Lesseps notes that Williams should also visit her Hamptons property, which Williams obliges. De Lesseps casually mentions that she has a beautiful property in Sag Harbor, asking Williams if she’s familiar with the area. And that’s when Williams takes her co-stars to school.
Williams proceeds to explain how Sag Harbor is dear to her because it was the first local land where Blacks were permitted to own waterfront property. She gives the context of the importance of homeownership in the Black community, as the Sag Harbor permission came just a few years after the abolishment of slavery. Some of her co-stars are visibly uncomfortable, but Williams continues.
Many fans are already impressed with Williams for her Black girl magic, including her wearing a Black Lives Matter shirt in her first scene. Fans are also loving Williams’ response to Sonja showing off her fish pond, with Sonja referencing she has fish in every color…including Black – which most guess was a reference to Williams’ skin color.
