Rick Famuyiwa has lined up another project since leaving DC’s Flashpoint.
He’ll write and direct Plan B and New Regency’s adaptation of the cult graphic novel, Black Hole.
This seems to be a project that will finally stick for a long-awaited adaptation of this series. For nearly 13 years, there have been multiple reports of an adaptation being in development, beginning in 2005 (when it was said that Alexandre Aja would be helming) and as recent as 2013 (with David Fincher being re-attached).
For more about Black Hole:
Set in the Pacific Northwest during the 1970s, Black Hole follows a group of high schoolers who contract a mysterious, apparently sexually transmitted disease known as “the Bug.” As the syndrome causes physical mutations, turning the teens into something else, the community is left to deal with the fallout.
12 Years A Slave collaborators Plan B (from Brad Pitt) and New Regency also have the sci-fi pic Ad Astra (starring Pitt, Ruth Negga and Kimberly Elise) and the next Ryan Coogler/Michael B. Jordan film, Wrong Answer, in development as well.
As for The Wood director Famuyiwa, outside of the acclaimed coming-of-age film Dope in 2015, he directed the Kerry Washington HBO film, Confirmation, he’s a director/EP on Lena Waithe’s Showtime series, The Chi, and he’ll helm a Son of Shaolin adaptation.
