Comedian and actor Ricky Harris, who had a recurring role in Chris Rock’s comedy series “Everybody Hates Chris” died Monday. He was 54.

A cause was not immediately available but Harris’ manager, Cindy Ambers, said the comedian suffered a heart attack two years ago, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The son of a preacher, Harris grew up in Long Beach along with childhood friend and rapper Snoop Dogg. The two sang in their church choir.

Harris’ his first movie roles were in “Poetic Justice” in 1993, and “Murder Was the Case” in 1994. He also had minor parts in Michael Mann’s 1995 crime film “Heat” and Mikael Salomon’s 1998 action movie “Hard Rain.”

From 1996 to 1998 Harris played the role of Javon “J. W.” Willis in a recurring role in the comedy series Moesha. In the 2001 film “Bones,” he had a supporting role in the movie starring alongside Snoop Dogg and Pam Grier. And from 2006 to 2008, he played the recurring character, Malvo in “Everybody Hates Chris.”

In addition, Harris was the voice of of several characters from various skits featured on hip-hop albums from Snoop Dogg to Tha Dogg Pound; he also lent his voice to various characters in the video game “Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.”

Snoop Dogg posted a video on Instagram about the death of Harris saying the actor was “my big brother, my homeboy” and a “Long Beach original.”

Fellow performers posted condolences on social media.

“Devastated!!! #RIP to the One and Only #RickyHarris,” tweeted Cedric the Entertainer.

Harris is survived by his mother, his ex-wife and two daughters.
