Thede, who wrote the screenplay, will also serve as a producer through her company For Better or Words. Tony Hernandez is also producing through Jax Media along with John Hodges and Brooke Posch. Variety first reported this news.
Described as Shaun of the Dead meets Girls Trip, Killing It is set in Atlanta, Georgia where a group of friends, who failed at their collegiate careers, return to their would-be alma mater, Spelman College, for homecoming. Unfortunately during the SpelHouse homecoming events, the city of Atlanta becomes overrun by zombies.
Thede’s deal with Amazon comes after her success of A Black Lady Sketch Show, which she executive producers and stars in. The show is a three-time Emmy nominee. Thede also seized a sizable overall deal with Warner Bros. that allows her to develop content across all platforms.
Thede’s other recent credits include starring in the Hulu film, Bad Hair. She was the executive producer and host of her own show, The Rundown with Robin Thede on BET. Before then, Thede made history as the first black woman to become a head writer for a late-night show. She wrote for Comedy’s Central, The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore.
Thede’s A Black Girl’s Sketch Show returns April 23.
