Rod Wave is officially off the hook, as prosecutors have dropped the domestic battery case recently brought against him.

The rapper was detained earlier this month during a traffic stop in his hometown of St. Petersburg, as Blavity previously reported.

Upon gathering the rapper’s information, authorities discovered he had a warrant for his arrest stemming from a prior incident in Osceola County, Florida. He was charged with battery by strangulation and held in Pinellas County Jail. A couple of days later, he was released on $5,000 bail and pleaded not guilty to the felony charge.

Initially, details surrounding the battery incident were hazy. However, as Blavity previously reported, it was soon uncovered that the alleged victim was Rod Wave’s ex-girlfriend, who also shared two children with the “Heart On Ice” rapper.

The woman, whose identity was redacted from court records, says Rod Wave entered her Osceola County home, accused her of dating other men, and choked her. It’s also worth adding that the pair’s children were home during the ordeal.

Once Rod Wave eventually left the scene, the woman called 9-1-1. Responding officers discovered that she had a scratch “near the left side of her neck,” though she declined medical care.

Now, Osceola County prosecutors have reviewed the case and determined that they will not move forward with the matter, essentially letting the rapper off the hook.

Rod Wave’s attorneys — Bradford Cohen and David Bigney — released a statement on Instagram.

“We are happy that this misunderstanding is behind him,” the lawyers noted. “He can move forward with his successful career.”

While Rod Wave hasn’t directly commented on the news, it’s worth noting that he has just announced a 10-city tour that will kick off next month.
