The 13th season of RuPaul’s Drag Race has been announced, paving the way for more inclusion not in racial diversity, but gender diversity with the series’ first trans male contestant.

The season’s announcement Wednesday was introduced by reigning queen, Jaida Essence Hall. Overall, there will be 12 queens vying for the title of America’s Next Drag Superstar. The Hall dynasty could continue with Hall’s drag sister, Kahmora Hall entering the race for season 13.

There is a lot of Black Drag Excellence in this cast, including ATL queen mother Tamisha Iman, Symone (season 12 runner-up Gigi Goode’s sister), NYC queen Olivia Lux and another ATL queen in LaLa Ri to bring the heat. Meanwhile, Gottmik, the first trans man to enter the workroom, will make history. It is history that’s long overdue for Drag Race, especially in light of RuPaul’s controversial comments regarding trans and AFAB (assigned female at birth) contestants in 2018.
