Savannah James, the wife of NBA legend LeBron James, is garnering praise online for how she teaches their daughter, Zhuri, to “celebrate her Blackness.”
The mother-of-three recently went to Instagram to show off her and Zhuri’s trip to The Black Hair Experience, a pop-up exhibition based in Los Angeles.
Savannah’s post was in the form of a video compilation, and it captured a few fun moments at the “interactive selfie-museum.”

At one point, Zhuri can be seen looking over a room completely enveloped in magazine covers that featured Black women, such as Essence and Hype Hair.
The mother-daughter duo also got the opportunity to play “Black Hair Bingo,” enjoy an art exhibit made up of du-rags and check out a feature dedicated to old-school hot combs.
One noteworthy person who commented on the video is Tabitha Brown, who wrote that she “can’t wait to go.” Gabrielle Union also shared in this sentiment.
Another user commented “I love how you teach her to celebrate her Blackness,” and someone else wrote that they’re glad Zhuri “is able to grow up & see herself represented through Black women & images.”
It’s worth adding that this praise comes a couple of months after Savannah showed off Zhuri’s hair routine in an Instagram video, touching on how their wash and trim process has helped the 7-year-old achieve her hair length. Savannah also previously uploaded a YouTube video showing her and Zhuri experimenting with “fun natural hairstyles.”
These serve as other examples of Savannah going out of her way to show how she teaches Zhuri to celebrate Black identity and culture.
However, we have to address that she and LeBron sometimes find themselves on the other end of the subject, as exemplified by the public’s recent response to their oldest child — LeBron “Bronny” James Jr. — dating a white girl.
“How can you be raised by a woman as beautiful and BLACK as Savannah and not want a Black woman? Ugh. I would be so disappointed,” one disgruntled commenter wrote.
Not everyone shared this sentiment, though, as former NFL star Robert Griffin III (aka RGIII) defended the family from the backlash.
“This ain’t got nothing to do with LeBron and Savannah not raising Bronny right,” he said online. “The color of the skin of a girl he takes to prom should not matter. Leave these kids alone.”
