Octavia Spencer is co-starring in director Guillermo Del Toro’s Cold War-era movie titled, The Shape of Water.

Described as “an other-worldly fairy tale, set against the backdrop of Cold War-era America circa 1963,” a lonely mute woman named Elisa (Sally Hawkins) sees her life changed when she and her co-worker Zelda (Spencer) discover a secret classified experiment.

We don’t see much of her in the trailer, but from what we can tell she’s an ally, confidant and a protector of sorts for Elisa, and may be instrumental in shielding her from the backlash and aftermath of what’s going down with her and this “experiment.”

Other cast members include Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Michael Stuhlbarg and Doug Jones.

It has been a busy 2017 for Spencer. In addition to the blockbuster Hidden Figures, Spencer also co-starred in The Shack, in which she essentially plays God, and Gifted with Chris Evans.

The Shape of Water will be released in December.
