Newly-launched by the Sheffield Doc/Fest in collaboration with Film agency Just So, the Just So Film Fund is a film fund created to support the next generation of filmmakers and champion creativity within short form documentary filmmaking.
Per the press release, this is an opportunity for selected filmmakers to experiment, to push the boundaries, to think about the way films are told and present true-life in bold and interesting ways.
During 2016 the Fund will award 12 grants of up to £5,000 (about $7,500, for a total of $90,000)) to filmmakers with untold stories, and will also provide those films with a home on the Postcards platform. Three will be green-lit at Sheffield Doc/Fest in June 2016 and the remaining will be commissioned over the course of the year from online submissions.
To submit, send short form documentary ideas (1-5 minutes approximately) that concern themselves with form and not just content to [email protected] with a single page outline of your idea, including links to your previous work. The deadline for the first round of submissions is January 31, 2016.
Jono Stevens, co-founder of Just So said: “There has never been a better time to be a documentary filmmaker. Short documentaries are on the rise and we started Postcards to stoke the fires of the genre.”
Liz McIntyre, CEO and director of Sheffield Doc/Fest added: “Sheffield Doc/Fest is thrilled to support Postcards, celebrating boundary-pushing experimentation in the distinct and increasingly significant genre of short form storytelling.”
