The Woman King star Sheila Atim has been tapped to play Akasha in the upcoming third season of AMC’s Anne Rice’s Interview with a Vampire, which is titled The Vampire Lestat.

The news was unveiled at New York Comic-Con during a panel featuring executive producers Johnson and Hannah Moscovitch, and cast members Sam Reid, Jacob Anderson, Bogosian, Assad Zaman and Jennifer Ehle.

Season 3 of the show follows rockstar Lestat (Reid) and his band on tour. Other new stars for Season 3 include Noah Reid as Larry, Ryan Kattner as Salamander, Seamus Patterson as Alex and Sarah Swire (The Boys) as TC.

Who has played Akasha before?

Akasha was notably played by Aaliyah in the 2002 film Queen of the Damned, which is based on Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles and served as a standalone sequel to the 1994 Interview with a Vampire film.

More news came out of the “Immoral Universe” from NYCC, as Anne Rice’s Talamasca: The Secret Order had its NYCC debut with with a panel featuring executive producer Mark Johnson, who oversees Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe for AMC Networks, showrunner and executive producer John Lee Hancock, sereis stars Nicholas Denton and William Fichtner, and special guest star Eric Bogosian. The series focuses on the secretive society responsible for tracking and containing the witches, vampires, and other creatures around the globe.

When does ‘The Vampire Lestat’ premiere?

The Vampire Lestat premieres next year, while Talamasca: The Secret Order premieres Oct. 26.
