A Smart Guy reboot is in the works. In an interview with Vice, original series star Tahj Mowry revealed the news.
“We’ve gotten the ball rolling on a Smart Guy revival. It’s sort of going to be a sequel, a continuation,” he told the publication.
Mowry also revealed that the reboot will focus on the adult life of his character, TJ Henderson. “You’ll be brought into where TJ is and what he’s up to now.” Mowry continued. “I came up with a really fresh take that will be different enough so even if you didn’t watch the original you’ll still be able to enjoy it.”
The original sitcom, which ran from 1997 to 1999, starred Mowry at TJ Henderson, a 10-year-old child prodigy whose high IQ caused him to skip few grades and land in high school along with his siblings, Yvette and Marcus (Essence Atkins and Jason Weaver).
While it’s unclear whether the rest of the cast from the original Smart Guy will return for the potential revival, Mowry also revealed he hopes the continuation of TJ’s story will find a home on Disney+, where the riginal series is currently streaming.
