Shadow and Act has an exclusive clip from the upcoming episode of ABC’s Soul of a Nation.

The below clip previews the story of Charles McGruder, an enslaved person, forced by his owners to breed more enslaved people. The story is told by his great-granddaughter Lucille Burden Osborne, who “heard his name many times,” but “nobody seemed to want to discuss how Charles fit into that slave situation.” Sterling K. Brown narrates Osborne’s segment.

The episode, guest hosted by Marsai Martin, also features ABC journalists Adrienne Bankert, Sunny Hostin, Zachary Kiesch and Janai Norman and follows “TikTok influencers as they navigate the popular social media app, unpacks the importance of Afrofuturism and details the history of sneaker culture.” H.E.R. also performs.

The episode airs March 9 at 10 p.m. EST on ABC.
