Warner Bros.’ Space Jam 2 has tapped its second principal cast member.
The sequel, starring LeBron James, has added Star Trek: Discovery and former The Walking Dead star Sonequa Martin-Green, who will portray his wife. The film, produced by Ryan Coogler and directed by Terrence Nance, hits theaters July 16, 2021.
A Space Jam sequel has been rumored for years with numerous NBA stars attached. The original film, starring Michael Jordan, was a big box office hit, grossing over $230 million worldwide. With production set to start this year, the film will be James’ first major, live-action film role. He had a sizeable voice role in the 2018 animated flick Smallfoot, and he also had a supporting role in the 2015 Amy Schumer film Trainwrecked. Other NBA stars are expected to star with James in the film, as well.
