Spike Lee is speaking out again about Chadwick Boseman’s ethereal presence in Da 5 Bloods.
Lee posted a photo taken by his brother and unit photographer David Charles Lee of Boseman on the set of Da 5 Bloods. In the photo, Boseman has his eyes closed and arms outstretched, similar to a Christ-like pose. Lee himself called the pose “Christ-like” in his photo caption.
“This took place before the final scene his character Stormin Norman…reappears as a ghost to forgive his best friend Paul (Delroy Lindo) for accidentally killing him in an act of friendly fire,” he wrote. “On my grandmother’s and mother’s graves there [was] some deep spirituality happening in this scene. Everybody felt it in front and behind the camera.”
“The heaven that was bathing Chadwick in the light was not from [one] of DP Tom Sigel’s lights,” Lee continued. [That was] GOD Himself who lit Brother Chadwick. And [that’s the] God’s Lamp truth, Ruth. God Bless our brother.”

This isn’t the first time Lee has commented on the special aura Boseman had while on set. In an October 2020 interview with Variety, as reported by Shadow And Act, Lee mentioned “God’s heavenly light” on set.
“We didn’t have light,” he said. “You know, Delroy [Lindo] is talking to the camera, talking about his conversation with God? We go up, and we come down and we find this heavenly light. It’s Chadwick standing in that light, in that pose. That was God up there. I don’t care what nobody says. That was God’s heavenly light, because that scene’s not lit. That’s natural light. And that was God sending heavenly light on Chadwick.”
