Shadow and Act has an exclusive preview of the new film in the Saw franchise starring Chris Rock. Spiral: From the Book of Saw also stars Samuel L. Jackson, Marisol Nichols and Max Minghella.
Here’s the official description: Working in the shadow of his father, an esteemed police veteran (Samuel L. Jackson), brash Detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks (Chris Rock) and his rookie partner (Max Minghella) take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game.
Original Saw producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules are producers for this film. The film is directed by Darren Lynn Bousman and written by Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger.
The first franchise had eight films from 2004 to 2017, following a serial killer named Jigsaw and his followers. It is one of the most successful franchises of all-time, grossing $976 million at the worldwide box office.
“Chris wants to put his own spin on the Saw franchise in the way Eddie Murphy put a completely fresh perspective on buddy-cop films with 48 Hours. This new Saw is going to be an event film in the making for horror fans. It will have all of the twists and turns and hardcore layers that our fans expect, directed by one of the masters of the craft, Darren Lynn Bousman. We can’t wait to get started,” said Burg and Koules in a prior statement.
