Celia Rose Gooding makes her debut as Nyota Uhura in the trailer for Paramount+’s latest Star Trek series, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

The series focuses on the earlier days of Spock (Ethan Peck) aboard the starship Enterprise. Spock is Science Officer to the first captain of the Enterprise, Christopher Pike (Anson Mount), and with Pike’s Number One (Rebecca Romijn), the crew sail throughout the stars exploring new planets and their cultures. Uhura makes her start on the Enterprise as a cadet, not yet the communications officer we knew in the 1960s series.

The series expands upon the storylines explored in the second season of Star Trek Discovery, which revealed that Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) is actually Spock’s adopted older sister. Michael and the Discovery crew make a one-way mission to the distant future in order to save the galaxy, leaving Spock and the remaining crew to re-establish a sense of order in the present timeline.

Starring alongside Gooding, Peck, Mount and Romijn are Jess Bush as Nurse Christine Chapel, Christina Chong as La’an Noonien-Singh, Melissa Navia as Lt. Erica Ortegas and Babs Olusanmokun as Dr. M’Benga, and recurring guest star Bruce Horak as Hemmer.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds premieres on Paramount+ May 5, with new episodes of the 10-episode series debuting weekly.
