In the incredible Season 3 of Netflix’s juggernaut, Stranger Things, one of the breakout characters was the little sister of Lucas Sinclair (Caleb McLaughlin), Erica, played by Priah Ferguson.
The character, snarky and sassy, won viewers hearts and served as comic relief throughout the season with witty one-liners, roasting her brother and his friends.
In a recent interview, Stranger Things creators The Duffer Brothers dished on the character of Erica, and say there will be more of her in Season 3.
11-year-old Ferguson, who has appeared in FX’s Atlanta, was a local addition to the cast. The character wasn’t intended to be featured as much as she was in Season 2 until they saw Ferguson in the role. ”
“I love Erica. [Ferguson] was just a local hire we made in Atlanta. Erica wasn’t even supposed to be in [Season 2] as much as she was. We fell in love with this girl. I thought she’s very GIF-able, if that’s a word,” said Matt Duffer. “She was great.” said Matt Duffer.
Ross Duffer added, “There will definitely be more Erica in Season 3. That is the fun thing about the show — you discover stuff as you’re filming. We were able to integrate more of her in, but not as much you want because the story [was] already going. ‘We got to use more Erica’ — that was one of the first things we said in the writers’ room.”
In our Season 2 review of Stranger Things, Shadow and Act lead editor Trey Mangum wrote, “When it’s all said and done, the second season really lives up to the hype.”
