The second season of Apple TV+ sports drama Swagger reveals how the series will deepen its focus on young basketball players and their families in first look images.

The eight-episode second season, which drops on Apple TV+ June 2023, brings back stars O’Shea Jackson Jr., Isaiah Hill, Shinelle Azoroh, Quvenzhané Wallis, Caleel Harris, Tristan Mack Wilds, Tessa Ferrer, James Bingham, Solomon Irama, Ozie Nzeribe, Jason Rivera, Christina Jackson and Sean Baker. New additions to the cast this season include Orlando Jones and Shannon Brown.

Swagger is created by showrunner and director Reggie Rock Bythewood and executive produced by Bythewood and his wife and creative partner Gina Prince-Bythewood. NBA star Kevin Durant also executive produces with Brian Grazer, Rich Kleiman, Francie Calfo, and Joy Kecken. The series is also produced by Apple TV+ by Imagine Television Studios, Boardroom, CBS Studios and Undisputed Cinema. Imagine Television Studios’ James Seidman also co-executive produces.

According to the description, the series is based on Durant’s experiences in youth basketball and the drama that goes on behind the competitive sport.

Inspired by NBA superstar Kevin Durant’s experiences in the world of youth basketball, “Swagger” explores the world of elite youth basketball clubs, the players, their families and coaches, and “the game within the game.” Off the court, the show reveals what it’s like to grow up in America.

As Reggie Rock Bythewood told Shadow and Act in 2021, the series is just another way he tries to tell stories about Black life for Black and non-Black audiences alike.

“I’ve never been one of those artists that shied away from saying, ‘I’m a Black artist,’ and I feel empowered by saying that,” he said. “I’m just really inspired to share those experiences and to do it from that lens. This is just a great American, universal story unapologetically told through a Black lens.”
