Tessa Thompson and Nnamdi Asomugha’s 1950s-’60s period romance Sylvie has some additions coming to the cast.
Along with Thompson and Asomugha, This Is Us star Ryan Michelle Bathe and Roots star Regé-Jean Page have now been named as part of the main cast. According to Deadline, Bathe will play TV cooking show producer Kate, who hires Sylvie (Thompson) as a production assistant. The working relationship brings them closer together, and Kate becomes her mentor to Sylvie. Page will play Chico, a jazz drummer in the Dickie Brewster Quartet.
Sylvie will focus on the midcentury romance between Sylvie and Robert (Asomugha), a saxophonist who works at Sylvie’s father’s Harlem record store. They have a young romance, but the drift apart and reconnect years later. Turns out their love never truly dissipated.
The film is written by Eugene Ashe and will have Ashe and Ashomugha as producers. Thompson will executive produce.
