Teyonah Parris is in talks to star in the Christine Swanson-directed post-Civil War drama “Buffalo Soldier Girl” which is inspired by historical events.
The story follows a woman who disguises herself as a man in order to enlist and fight as a “buffalo soldier.”
Best-selling author Sarah Bird wrote the script, with Pantheon of Women, which was founded by Alicia Goodrow, Donna Fijimoto Cole, and Deborah Kainer, producing.
The project reunites Swanson and Parris who worked together on the upcoming Miki Howard bio, “Love Under New Management,” previously covered on this blog, which will be released later this year.
Parris most recently starred in Spike Lee’s “Chi-Raq.” She can also be seeing headlining Leila Djansi’s drama “Where Children Play,” which is currently streaming on Netflix. This summer, she returns to the small screen in season 2 of Starz’s dramedy series “Survivor’s Remorse.”
