In less than two weeks, Us has grossed over $100 million at the domestic box office. It’s an incredibly stunning achievement, considering the film is neither a sequel nor an adaptation of a popular property. While the film is rife with social commentary we’ve come to expect from Jordan Peele, it is also rife with superhero connections courtesy of the main actors. The stars of Us, Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke, Anna Diop and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II have all portrayed comic book characters in superhero films and television series — and folks have been surprised when they make the connection on social media.
Lupita Nyong’o, who portrays the dual characters of Adelaide (Thomas) Wilson/Red in Us, also played the role of Nakia in Black Panther. Winston Duke, who portrayed the dual roles of Gabe Wilson/Abraham, played M’Baku in Black Panther.

For those unfamiliar, Anna Diop portrays the role of Starfire in Titans, the dark and gritty television series adaptation chronicling DC Comics superheroes, the Teen Titans. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, on the other hand, portrayed villain Black Manta in the DC Comics film, Aquaman. Diop and Mateen portrayed the roles of Adelaide/Red’s parents, Rayne Thomas/Eartha and Russel Thomas/Wayland in Us.
Us isn’t the only Jordan Peele film that possesses a connection to a superhero property. Daniel Kaluuya, who starred in Peele’s acclaimed directorial debut Get Out, portrayed the role of W’Kabi in Black Panther.
