Storm Reid has a message for homophobic viewers of the HBO show The Last Of Us.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Reid addressed the backlash against The Last Of Us for two episodes, one being last Sunday’s in which she featured in, as well as the third episode, “Long, Long Time,” which chronicles the romance of Bill (Nick Offerman) and Frank (Murray Bartlett).
“Like Bella said when episode 3 came out: If you don’t like it, don’t watch,” Reid said to Entertainment Weekly. “We are telling important stories. We’re telling stories of people’s experiences, and that’s what I live for. That’s what makes good storytelling because we are telling stories of people who are taking up space in the world.”
Reid, who also stars in the HBO show Euphoria, appears in The Last Of Us episode 7 as Riley, the love interest to Ellie (Bella Ramsay).
The actress further asserted her stance on the HBO show’s queer-centric storylines in the wake of Sunday’s episode, “Left Behind,” which focuses on the relationship between Riley and Ellie.
“It’s 2023. If you’re concerned about who I love, then I need you to get your priorities straight,” she said. “There’s so many other things to worry about in life. Why are you concerned that these young people — or anybody — love each other? Love is beautiful, and the fact that people have things to say about it, it’s just nonsense.”
The Last of Us airs Sundays on HBO.
