Lizzo and Jack Black show up in the popular Disney+ Star Wars series, The Mandalorian, in surprising cameos.
Decider reports that in the series’ latest episode, “Guns for Hire,” Mando (Pedro Pascal) and Bo-Katan (Katee Sackhoff) visit a luxury planet called Plazir-15, where they meet the leaders of the planet, Bombardier (Black) and the Duchess (Lizzo). Black’s character used to work for the Empire before taking part in the New Republic’s Anmesty Program, leading to a mission to help rebuild Plazir-15 after Empire lost control of the planet. The mission led to him finding love with the Duchess, a member of the planet’s royal family.
Lizzo and Black are joined by another star cameo, Christopher Lloyd as Commissioner Helgait, who is the head of the city’s battle droids.
While the episode might smell like stunt casting (similar to Megan Thee Stallion appearing in She-Hulk as herself), the move does continue Star Wars‘ efforts to diversify its worlds, seeing how Black women are rarely showcased in the franchise. Even better is that Lizzo is playing royalty, so we are getting to see Black women at all levels of society within the Star Wars universe.
The Mandalorian Season 3 debuts drops a new episode every Wednesday on Disney+.
Disney+ isn’t the only streaming service Lizzo has brought her talents to. The singer recently made the news this week for extending her first-look deal with Amazon Studios as she and the studio start casting for the second season of the award-winning series Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls. In a statement, she said how proud she is to continue to working with Amazon Studios and bring the show back to fans.
“I’m thrilled to continue this partnership with the Amazon team after an incredible experience on season one of Watch Out for the Big Grrrls,” she said. “I’ve witnessed lives change through this show and I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue making space for even more Big Grrrls around the world to shine and break down barriers across this industry.”
