The first look images from Hulu and Onyx Collective’s upcoming TV series The Other Black Girl showcase Ashleigh Murray and Sinclair Daniel as two Black women vying for the same level of prestige within their company.
Based on Zakiya Dalila Harris’ novel of the same name, The Other Black Girl takes on workplace dynamics when race and gender become involved. The television adaptation is also co-written by Harris.
The story follows Nella, a Black editorial assistant in a New York City publishing firm–one that also happens to be mostly white. When another Black woman is hired, Nella begins to feel the effects of not being the sole Black woman at the company. According to the official description:
Nella, an editorial assistant, is tired of being the only Black girl at her company, so she’s excited when Hazel is hired. But as Hazel’s star begins to rise, Nella spirals out and discovers something sinister is going on at the company.
The series also stars Brittany Adebumola, Hunter Parrish, Bellamy Young, Eric McCormack and Garcelle Beauvais. Harris serves as executive producer with TetraVision founder Tara Duncan. Rashida Jones, Adam Fishbach, Jordan Reddout, Gus Hickey and Temple Hill’s Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen also executive produce. Reddout and Hickey are co-producers.
The Other Black Girl will release all 10 episodes on Hulu.
