It has been rumored for some time that The Proud Family is getting a reboot of sorts at Disney+, and now one of its stars has gone on a Disney-owned network to say that a reboot is taking place.
JoMarie Payton, who voices Suga Mama, was on ABC’s Strahan, Sara and Keke Tuesday for a segment featuring some beloved television parents from classic shows. When Keke Palmer asked if she’s anything like Suga Mama, Payton said, “Yeah, Suga’s large and in charge. That’s all I’ve got to say — except for Suga Mama will be doing some new episodes come February.” Palmer, responded with excitement, saying, “Yes, on Disney+!”
This isn’t the first time that a star has talked about a The Proud Family revival on the new streaming service.
Back in August, in an interview on the red carpet at 47 Meters Down: Uncaged, Tommy Davidson told Where Is The Buzz: “I forgot to tell you that, The Proud Family is coming back. Proud Family‘s coming back. It’s on one of Disney’s streaming [services]. Yeah, Proud Family‘s coming back. They told me not to tell anyone…new episodes!”
The show originally aired from 2001-2005 and concluded with a Disney Channel original movie, titled The Proud Family Movie. Alongside Davidson and Payton, the show also starred Kyla Pratt, Paula Jai Parker, Tara Strong, Karen Malina White, Soleil Moon Frye, Alisa Reyes, Orlando Brown, Raquel Lee, Maria Canals-Barrera and more.
Disney+ has yet to provide a statement or comment.
