The Walking Dead might kick off its latest season without the return of its most popular character.

With the renewal of the series’ tenth season, there’s a possibility that Danai Gurira might not reprise her role as Michonne. According to The Hollywood Reporter, negotiations between Gurira and AMC were complicated due to her breakout success with the film Black Panther.

Gurira received rave reviews for her performance as Dora Milijae warrior Okoye. It is being speculated that given her superstardom in both the film and television mediums, Gurira wanted a more flexible schedule or an increase in her salary. As of late, AMC has not agreed with Gurira, leaving the fate of her beloved katana-wielding character up in the air. Hopefully, AMC and Gurira can reach an agreement to bring The Walking Dead’s beloved character to our television screens.

Last November, it was reported that Gurira was poised to become one of the top-billed characters on The Walking Dead in a groundbreaking deal with AMC.
