For those of you that watched the second season finale of the NBC ratings juggernaut This Is Us, you will remember that the episode capped off with a flash-forward that depicted an older version of Randall Pearson (Sterling K. Brown) saying to an adult version of his daughter Tess (Iantha Richardson) “It’s time to go see her.”
After Tess replied, “I’m not ready,” Randall answered back, “I’m not either.”
These cryptic set of responses, plus the conspicuous absence of Beth Pearson, left many fans scratching their heads and wondering if Susan Kelechi Watson’s beloved character has met an untimely passing.
While fans can rest assured that Beth will survive, creator Dan Fogelman has revealed that the mystery surrounding the scene will play out over the show’s run. “It’s a mystery that won’t play out over seasons,” Fogelman told Entertainment Weekly. “I don’t imagine us going past this time period in the future so in terms of a timeline, this is our ending timeline. But we may have other past timelines we’re going to introduce in the course of the series, and also other future story lines that we might introduce as well.”
With the recent ratings, success and acclaim This Is Us has had, more seasons seem like a guarantee.
