Lionsgate/Codeblack’s upcoming biopic on Angela Davis now has a writer, according to THR.

This Is Us writer Kay Oyegun will pen the script. This comes after Forest Whitaker was announced as executive producer. Nina Yang Bongiovi, producer of Dope and Fruitvale Station, Sidra Smith and Codeblack CEO Jeff Clanagan are also producing.

Angela Davis herself will be involved in the film’s making, serving as an executive producer along with her niece Eisa Davis, who is also penning the script.

There are at least 2 Angela Davis films (that we currently know of) to watch for. This one is authorized the other is not. The second is from writer LaToya Morgan, who sold her script to a production company called The Firm. No other details on that film have been released since our last report.

We obviously are unsure as of yet who will portray Davis. For years, Halle Berry has expressed interest in wanting to take on the role.
