mixed-ish star Tika Sumpter graced Shadow And Act’s Facebook page on Wednesday to take part in our Locked Down With __ series. During her time live with fans, she discussed aspects of her career and roles, including her role Alicia on the black-ish spinoff.
“I think just presenting a different version of what black motherhood looks like on TV,” she said. “You can be a careerist, which I am, and have a child and try to have it all. It’s always going to kind-of be imbalanced, but I love that she’s a fully-realized character.”
She also talked about one of her favorite mixed-ish episodes, directed by Oscar-winning Hair Love creator and director Matthew A. Cherry.
“He directed this episode called ‘Bad Boys’ and it’s about…how we inform our kids how to walk around on this earth with law enforcement,” she said. “I think it was a really really great episode, it was informative, it was shot so well, and I love Matthew Cherry.”
