Tom Cruise and director Alejandro González Iñárritu’s upcoming collaboration now has a title.

The Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment film is titled Digger, and there is no lengthy description or synopsis for it, only that it is “a comedy of catastrophic proportions.” Warner Bros. describes Cruise’s character, Digger Rockwell, as “the most powerful man in the world” who “embarks on a frantic mission to prove that he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything.”

The film is Iñárritu’s first film since The Revenant and, as Variety reported, was co-written in 2023 with Birdman co-writers Nicolas Giacobone and Alexander Dinelaris, as well as Sabina Berman.

Producers are Cruise and Iñárritu. Variety also has a bit of plot details about the film, which stars Cruise as Digger Rockwell.

Producers are Iñárritu and Cruise, and this film is the first that stems from a deal that Cruise signed with Warner Bros. to develop and produce theater-bound films.

Who else stars in ‘Digger’?

The cast also includes Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde, Riz Ahmed and Emma D’Arcy.

When will ‘Digger’ be in theaters?

The film currently has an October 2, 2026, release date.

The release date also highly suggests, as Variety reported, that the film could be a prime target for the Cannes Film Festival or the Venice Film Festival, where Iñárritu has a strong relationship with Cannes, and Venice screened his last film, 2022’s Bardo: False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths.
