Over the holidays, Netflix released a “Sense8” special titled “Sense8: A Christmas Special,” a one-off 2-hour event that essentially serves as episode 1 of season 2, for which Netflix has set a Friday, May 5 premiere date, when a second 10-episode season will begin streaming on the premier SVOD platform.
Picking up where season one left off, Capheus (Toby Onwumere), Kala (Tina Desai), Lito (Miguel Angel Silvestre), Nomi (Jamie Clayton), Riley (Tuppence Middleton) , Sun (Donna Bae), Will (Brian J. Wright) and Wolfgang (Max Riemelt) come together both physically and mentally, plunged into the middle of each other’s tragedies and triumphs. On the run from Whispers (Terrence Mann), and forced to question their very identity, it’s a matter of survival as the Sensates must find a way to live with, understand and protect one another against all odds.
Of note, Capheus – the young Kenyan man living in Nairobi – who was played by British actor Aml Ameen in season 1, will be played by recent UC San Diego MFA acting graduate Toby Onwumere. Capheus is one of eight strangers around the word suddenly linked mentally and emotionally, who are at the center of the sci-fi series.
In addition, Freema Agyeman returns for season 2.
The sprawling production spans 9 locations on 4 continents – Chicago, San Francisco, London, Iceland, Seoul, Mumbai, Berlin, Mexico City and Nairobi.
The Wachowski siblings created the series, and also executive produce with Grant Hill and J. Michael Straczynski
