Tyler Perry is sticking with Netflix as he continues to expand his film empire.
Netflix announced that Perry has entered into a multi-year first-look deal with the streamer. The deal represents what Netflix calls “a creative partnership” that will include Perry writing, directing and producing feature films for the streaming service.
Perry has already benefitted from a working relationship with Netflix, releasing A Fall from Grace, A Madea Homecoming and A Jazzman’s Blues on the streamer. He also has two upcoming films for Netflix, Six Triple Eight starring Kerry Washington in the true story about “the first and only Women’s Army Corp unit of color stationed overseas during World War 2,” and Mea Culpa starring Kelly Rowland as “a criminal defense attorney who takes on the case of an artist who may or may not have murdered his girlfriend.”
Deadline reports how the deal also runs concurrent with Perry’s other creative deal with Amazon Studios, which he signed in 2022, to write, direct and produce four films for Prime Video. Another film coming from Amazon Studios involves Perry in a different way–as the subject. Maxine’s Baby: The Tyler Perry Story, is produced by Amazon Studios and Bekele Films and directed by Gelila Bekele and Armani Ortiz. The film will debut Oct. 27 at Hollywood’s TCL Chinese Theatre as the main event for AFI Fest.
Perry also has a working relationship with Paramount, with multiple shows at BET and BET+, as he is a key partner in the later.
