A24 has dropped the trailer for Uncut Gems. The film, which is being considered by critics as a career-high for Adam Sandler, is due in theaters this December.
Lakeith Stanfield, Kevin Garnett (yes, that Kevin Garnett), Idina Menzel and The Weeknd all co-star. Martin Scorsese is an executive producer of the project. Netflix will be releasing the film internationally.
The description: From acclaimed filmmakers Josh and Benny Safdie comes an electrifying crime thriller about Howard Ratner (Adam Sandler), a charismatic New York City jeweler always on the lookout for the next big score. When he makes a series of high-stakes bets that could lead to the windfall of a lifetime, Howard must perform a precarious high-wire act, balancing business, family, and encroaching adversaries on all sides, in his relentless pursuit of the ultimate win.
Here are my initial thoughts after watching the movie at the Toronto International Film Festival:
Whew. UNCUT GEMS. It’s loud, abrasive, chaotic, exhilarating, anxiety-inducing and RELENTLESS. My heart rate is up. I’m sure this has to be a career-best for Adam Sandler, supported by LaKeith Stanfield and Idina Menzel (who we needed more of). Now, I need to go calm down. #TIFF19
