Don’t let anyone tell you that Jason Mitchell is not the real deal. The actor’s on-screen talent and charisma is most definitely ripe and ready for audiences across the big screen. Mitchell’s next role might put this notion to rest.
Deadline has reported that The Chi star is slated to portray Anthony Robles in the biopic Unstoppable. A former wrestling champion with an inspiring tale of steely resolve., Robles was born with only one leg and conquered an insurmountable amount of obstacles to win his NCAA wrestling title in 2010-2011. The film will be based on the book, Unstoppable: From Underdog To Undefeated: How I Became A Champion, Robles’ 2012 biography in which he details his rise to the Arizona State wrestling championship.
Mitchell is no stranger to heavy dramatic material. The actor has delivered to notch performances in films such as the Dee Rees-directed Southern epic Mudbound (for which he was egregiously snubbed for an Oscar nomination, if you ask us) and his performance as late rapper Eazy E in the acclaimed musical biopic, Straight Outta Compton.
If done right, Unstoppable can be the final nail in the coffin to confirm Jason Mitchell as Hollywood’s next leading man. The film, directed by Oscar-winning editor Billy Goldenberg and written by Eric Champnella, is slated to shoot in the first half of 2019.
