20th Century Studios is prepping for the release of Vacation Friends, dropping the title on Hulu as a Hulu original in the United States and in international regions, it will be on Disney+’s Star section as a Star original.

The film stars John Cena, Lil Rel HoweryYvonne Orji, Meredith Hagner, Robert Wisdom, Andrew Bachelor and Lynn Whitfield. The studios says that Vacation Friends is the first 20th Century Studios’ first film to have a simultaneous global release on the Hulu and Disney+ streaming platforms.

Here’s the description: In this raw and raunchy comedy, straight-laced Marcus and Emily (Howery, Orji) are befriended by wild, thrill-seeking partiers Ron and Kyla (Cena, Hagner) at a resort in Mexico.  Living in the moment, the usually level-headed couple lets loose to enjoy a week of uninhibited fun and debauchery with their new “vacation friends.” Months after their walk on the wild side, Marcus and Emily are horrified when Ron and Kyla show up uninvited at their wedding, creating chaos and proving that what happens on vacation, doesn’t necessarily stay on vacation.

The film is directed by Clay Tarver. It was written by Tom Mullen & Tim Mullen and Clay Tarver and Jonathan Goldstein & John Francis Daley.

At the film’s global press conference, Tarver and cast members John Cena, Yvonne Orji, Robert Wisdom, Andrew Bachelor and Lil Rel Howery talked about the film as will as some of their own vacation experiences.

On the core of the film, Tarver said, “I think we all go on vacation.  You meet somebody and you sort of get close with them for a week, maybe a little too close.  You know?  And then when you return to like, the sober light of day, you’re like, ‘Wait were we friends or were we not friends? How close of friends were we?’ And you sort of have this freedom to go a little bit out of your comfort zone because you think you’re never gonna see them again. This is a movie where the premise is sort of what if you do see them again? “

Insecure star Orji acts opposite Lil Rel Howery, who has also appeared on Insecure. They are also friends and comedians.

On embodying her character of Emily, the actress said, “Good best performances, I believe, come when you’re not in your head about performing, and you are just being and being present and enjoying the ride.  Rel and myself were both comics and so it’s just like being able to be spontaneous on-in the middle of moments and find the funny in whatever spontaneity comes out from that, we just go with it.”

Howery added, “What I do like about Marcus and [what] think that’s what makes this interesting, is that this guy for me, he’s a dude that he has his own business…he owns a construction company…he’s got all these amazing things.  But he hasn’t really let his hair down for real. And because we meet this couple who’s just like, ‘Yo, we just down for whatever,’ It helps [them] let their hair down.”

Orji even shared a vacation story of her own.

“I vacation solo often, and so I meet a lot of people,” she explained. “I actually enjoy meeting people. But it iis that sense of, ‘Oh my gosh, you’re super cool, take my number.’ And then after, like a week of being back home, you’re just like, Well that was…I’m good [laughs].”

Wisdom added, “Let’s just say that an actor’s life is sort of like a vacation.  You’re working on location and you’re constantly meeting people and you think they’re good for you, and then you find out [they’re] drug traffickers, or you know, whatever [laughs]. And the FBI calls your room, and it’s just like, ‘What the hell happened?’ But a lot of times you just kind of get in over your head with new friends and you promise we’re gonna do this, let’s come back next year, and let’s do this again, and it’s like a lot.”

Vacation Friends is streaming on Hulu this Friday.
