Vin Diesel and Mudbound co-writer Virgil Williams are setting up a boxing drama at NBC, sources have confirmed to Shadow and Act.
Both of them have overall deals at Universal TV.
The show, titled Crushers Club, is an hour-long drama on a boxing gym which is a second home for the kids of one of Chicago’s toughest neighborhoods. A single mom named Sonia becomes an unlikely ally for them.
Williams will write the script and EP with Diesel.
This is the second project Williams has in development this season. The other is a cop drama called Hard Knocks which is set up at Fox. He was a writer-producer for six seasons on Criminal Minds before leaving the show for his Universal TV deal.
This is the third project that Diesel’s One Race TV has in the works this season, including a Miami Vice reboot at NBC and a Get Christie Love reboot at ABC.
