Viola Davis‘ next project is back inside the DCEU.
According to Variety, Davis is in talks to reprise her Suicide Squad role Amanda Waller for an upcoming HBO Max Peacemaker spinoff series. While not much is known about what the series will entail, fans of the character can suss that Waller will be involved in more discreet government missions, skirting the villain/anti-hero line she often does in the comic books.
Spoilers ahead, but Variety reports that the series will immediately tie into Peacemaker since Danielle Brooks’ character, Adebayo, is Waller’s daughter, who lets the public in on the fact that Waller was the mastermind behind the Suicide Squad and Task Force X. Davis has already had her presence known on the show, appearing in the first and last episodes.
If everything goes through, Davis will also executive produce the spinoff with Christal Henry. Henry will also serve as the series’ writer. James Gunn will also executive produce with Peter Safran, while Warner Bros. Television will produce.
The DCEU has had a tough go at the theaters, but DC projects have been stellar for HBO Max, with Peacemaker, animated Series Harley Quinn, and Doom Patrol becoming huge successes for the streaming service. The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson, Zoë Kravitz and Jeffrey Wright, has also been a huge ratings boon.
