Yazzmin Johnson a Missouri third-grade teacher of five years, celebrated the end of the school year with a catchy video. The now viral TikTok video was an outlet for Johnson to celebrate summer vacation rolling in. Johnson’s expressed her excitement by creating her own rendition of iCandy’s viral TikTok song “Keep Dat.”
@born2win03 Teachers the time has finally come‼️‼️ it’s summertime ‼️‼️ enjoy your break! #teachersoftiktok #tiktokteacher #hotteachersummer😂 #fyp #keepthat #summervibes ♬ original sound — Mrs. Johnson
The video slowed during its first two days on TikTok but eventually reached the #teachertok community. Teachers from all over the U.S. joined in on the fun and created their comedy skits stitching Johnsons’ audio as background music.
“Keep them, kids, keep them kids, keep them kids,” Johnson lip-synced over the song and replaced the original lyrics with teacher-friendly ones.
@niecelasha 🗣️Keep them kids at homeeee lol 😂 4 more days until break! #teachersoftiktoktok #kindergarten #teacherlife #blackteachersontiktok #keepthemkids ♬ Keep Them Kids — Mrs. Johnson
“It was maybe two days later, and I told my husband, I thought this is a flop. The song is a bop, but I think it’s a flop. But it’s OK; I do it for fun, you know?” she told Good Morning America.
“The song is basically [about] every single thing that we have to do all year that’s become, like, almost an ick in a sense,” Johnson said
Despite loving her role as an educator, she admits that teaching has drastically changed post-pandemic. She told GMA she was happy to see her peers celebrating their summer freedom with her.
“We deserve to pat ourselves on the back and have fun. Because everyone knows, teaching after the pandemic is totally different from before. So, I love seeing teachers just so happy and celebrating with each other,” Johnson said.

“And the parents, oh my goodness, there’s so many parents that have done it. And their perspective is, you’re realizing, ‘Oh, man, my kids are going to be home every day, all day.’ And I just think that’s hilarious,” Johnson added.
