Tisha Campbell is joining Fox’s edition of Last Man Standing, but she’ll be playing a character from the show’s past.
According to Deadline, Campbell will be recurring as Carol Larabee, the wife of Mike Baxter’s (Tim Allen) coworker Chuck Larabee (Jonathan Adams). The character was first seen on the original ABC version of Last Man Standing, but the role was held by Erika Alexander. Alexander wasn’t able to return to the role because of problems with scheduling.
The casting will certainly be a jarring one for fans of the show, seeing how Alexander and Campbell look nothing alike. Campbell will certainly be able to hold down the role, but in terms of optics, this looks like it could go alongside the infamous colorist recastings of Aunt Viv in The Fresh Prince of Bel Air and Harriette Winslow in Family Matters.
Most recently, Campbell hosted the BET’s Soul Train Awards alongside Tichina Arnold. Campbell has also been featured in films and TV shows such as Blindspotting starring Daveed Diggs Rafael Casal, FOX’s Empire, ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy and Cartoon Network’s Craig of the Creek.
