Although television is always lacking when it comes to black love, we’ve been privileged to some iconic black super-pairings. From Dwayne and Whitley on A Different World to Scooter and Khadijah on Living Single, black love is a potent thing when depicted right on television.

If you watch the NBC drama This Is Us, then you’d know that that the chemistry between Emmy winner Sterling K. Brown and Susan Kelechi Watson is off the charts. As television couple Randall and Beth Pearson, both exude the type of radiance, exuberance and organic chemistry present in television’s most revered supercouples.

Before their casting as Randall and Beth, Brown and Watson had to test out their chemistry beforehand. In a recently-released digital video exclusive, a snippet of Brown and Watson’s audition is shown and the chemistry is evident. Both actors also reserved some time to wax poetic praises about This Is Us, with Brown calling it the best network television pilot he’s ever read. The third season of This Is Us premieres on NBC on September 25.
