Starring Keanu Reeves and Renée Zellweger, “The Whole Truth” centers on a defense attorney Richard (played by Reeves), who makes a promise to a widowed friend of his (Zellweger), that he will keep her son out of prison when he’s put on trial for murdering his father.

But Reeves has a tricky situation to deal with since the son had originally confessed to killing his father, to the police. But it turns out that Reeves discovers evidence that the father wasn’t the nicest guy in the world, which Reeves uses to get his client off. However Reeves’ new colleague, Janelle “tries to dig deeper – and begins to realize that the whole truth is something she alone can uncover.”

The problem we have here is that the new colleague is played by Gugu Mbatha-Raw (“Belle”, “Beyond the Lights”), and the trailer will have you believe that she barely exists. Judging from the synopsis, it appears she has a major part in the film, but you barely see her in the trailer.

On top of that, her name isn’t even listed along with Reeves, who’s not the A list actor he was a decade ago; and Zellweger is currently trying to make a comeback.

But then she’s just a black actress right? It’s not as if she’s really all that important, despite the fact that she top-lined three feature films in the last two years. Still I’m betting that her salary on the film didn’t even match or come close to what Reeves or Zellweger got paid.

Watch the trailer. Am I out if line here or just pointing out the obvious?
