The trailer for the third season of HBO’s True Detective starring Mahershala Ali is out. From the looks of it, it seems like Ali is giving one of his best performances yet.

Ali plays Arkansas police detective Wayne Hays, who investigated a missing children’s case in 1980. However, as the trailer shows, the mystery continues throughout three different time periods, including when Hays is older trying to piece together the parts of his past.

The series also stars Deborah Ayorinde, Carmen Ejogo, Ray Fisher, Stephen Dorff, Michael Greyeyes, Mamie Gummer and Scoot McNairy. The season will air on HBO in 2019.
