What do feature directors do in between films? There are lots of answers of course, but one of them is commercial work. Like Spike Lee’s short film on Mo’ne Davis for Chevrolet or Ava DuVernay’s piece for Fashion Fair, another director has stepped into the commercial world, this time with lauded ballerina Misty Copeland.
Sheldon Candis, who directed the 2012 Sundance film "LUV," has directed a web series with Copeland for Under Armour Women called "I Will What I Want." In it, she describes her inspiration and the challenges as the first black woman in two decades to be a soloist at the American Ballet Theatre.
This is the latest in a growing group of projects involving Copeland, including a feature length documentary from Nelson George, a narrative film from New Line, and a reality series from Oxygen.
