Today’s Short Shout! comes from an organization called Resident Advisor titled "Real Scenes: Detroit," which is part of a series of films, supported by and conceived with Bench, in which they explore the musical, cultural and creative climate within electronic music’s key destinations.
The series looks at the role singular figureheads – producers, DJs, promoters – play in making their city’s music scene a point of world-wide interest. It also looks at places, spaces and inspirations, seeking out the essence of what gives these hyper-local scenes a global resonance. In this piece, viewers are taken to the city which gave birth to the genre we now call techno – a city whose importance in the global electronic music scene is often referred to in the past tense, as the creators state.
