The first trailer for A Star Is Born starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper has been released, featuring a stealth appearance by Dave Chappelle.
Chappelle plays a character named Noodles who, at least based on the trailer, is a friend and mentor of sorts to country singer Jackson Maine (Cooper).
A Star is Born is Cooper’s directorial debut and also stars Andrew Dice Clay and Sam Elliot. The film is another remake of the 1937 film, which has been remade two more times, the most famous of which is the 1954 film starring Judy Garland and James Mason.
“In this new take on the tragic love story, he plays seasoned musician Jackson Maine, who discovers—and falls in love with—struggling artist Ally (Gaga). She has just about given up on her dream to make it big as a singer… until Jack coaxes her into the spotlight. But even as Ally’s career takes off, the personal side of their relationship is breaking down, as Jack fights an ongoing battle with his own internal demons.”
Original songs for the film are written by Gaga, Cooper, Lukas Nelson, Jason Isbell and Mark Ronson. Cooper and Gaga also perform the songs, making it not only Cooper’s directorial debut but also his musical debut.
A Star is Born is written by Cooper, Eric Roth, and Will Fetters. The film is also produced by Cooper as well as Bill Gerber, Jon Peters, Todd Phillips and Lynette Howell Taylor. Ravi Mehta, Basil Iwanyk, Niija Kuykendall, Sue Kroll, Michael Rapino and Heather Parry are the executive producers.
