Check out the short piece Yoruba Richen directed titled “I Rise,” which is inspired by Andra Day’s song “Rise Up” that tells the story of trailblazing African American women who create, inspire and transform.
“I Rise” is presented by Coca-Cola and McDonald’s, produced by Umut Ozaydinli and Angela Tucker.
Readers of this blog will be familiar with Yoruba Richen’s work; we covered her feature documentary, “The New Black,” which examines the reaction of the black community to the debate over legalizing gay marriage. The film was released in 2013 after a successful film festival run, during which it drew much acclaim.
You will also know producer Angela Tucker, creator of the awesome “Black Folk Don’t” web series also featured on this blog, as well as producer of Yoruba Richen’s “The New Black.”
