"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," or simply "Rogue One," is directed by Gareth Edwards and written by Gary Whitta and Chris Weitz. It’s the first "Star Wars" Anthology film (there’ll likely be several of them, as well as spin-off TV series; basically, Disney is going to milk its purchase of Lucasfilm dry).

The stand-alone story is set in the Star Wars universe, shortly before the events of "A New Hope," and will center on a group of Rebel spies on a mission to steal the plans for the Galactic Empire’s new weapon, the Death Star.

The movie stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, and Alan Tudyk.

Disney will release it on December 16, 2016.
