Netflix’s When They See Us, OWN’s David Makes Man, HBO’s Watchmen and Lifetime’s Surviving R. Kelly are among the 30 Peabody Award winners, announced Wednesday.
The programs were named as “the most compelling and empowering stories released in broadcasting and digital media during 2019,” as reported by Variety.
“This year’s winners are a vibrant collective of inspiring, innovative and powerful stories,” said Peabody executive director Jeffrey P. Jones. “True to the spirit and legacy of Peabody, our winners are also distinguished by the presence and resilience of many emerging and diverse voices.”
PBS news program Frontline was given Peabody’s institutional award along with Fox’s The Simpsons. Peabody called Frontline “an unwavering source for truth through quality journalism when both are actively under attack.”
The institution recently made news for honoring Cicely Tyson with the Peabody career achievement award Monday.
