The original, which starred Wesley Snipes, Woody Harrelson and Rosie Perez, was about two hustlers who tried to scam their way to the top of a streetball tournament in order to win the cash prize.
Walls and Harlow are taking on the roles originated by Snipes and Harrelson, but the characters will have different names. Whereas Snipes character was named Sidney Deane, Walls’ character is named Kamal Allen. Harlow’s character will also presumably have a different name from Billy Hoyle, the character’s name when Harrelson played him.
According to Deadline, Reddick will play Walls’ father and basketball coach, Benji Allen. Benji is described as living with multiple sclerosis and has been his son’s coach since Kamal was young.
There’s no word on who Taylor and Harrier are playing, but you can presume that they are possibly the two love interests for the main lead characters.
The film is directed by Calmatic, who is also directing the House Party remake, yet another 90s film that has a remake soon coming. Kenya Barris and Doug Hall are writing the script. Barris will also produce the film through his company, Khalabo Ink Society.
The film will have an injection of real basketball cred thanks to Blake Griffin, who is executive producing with Ryan Kalil and Noah Weinstein through the group’s production company, Mortal Media. E. Brian Dobbins and Doug Hall will also executive produce.
